A message for 1st Year Students from CEO - Rich Woldt

Thank you for putting CUNA Management School on your career path and my RM sessions on your calendar. You're embarking on a three year journey that will test your metal, challenge your mind, and introduce you to a cadre of experienced Risk Managers around the world. While the life threatening risks we're facing today (tsunamis, hurricanes, terrorist attacks, etc.) have put fidelity bond risks (burglary, robbery, forgery, embezzlement, liability, etc.) on the back burner, we'll spend some time fine tuning your internal and audit controls and preparing your staff for the next burglary, robbery, bomb threat, or anthrax scare.
  1. To take full advantage of our time in the classroom, I need you to help me benchmark your knowledge of Risk Management principles and methods.  This quiz does not identify you but rather provides me with an overall class score so that I might focus on risks important to your class. Please click here to benchmark your class!
  2. Homeland security terrorist alerts indicate there will be another attack within the US before the end of the year. The National Weather Service predicts another active hurricane season in 2006. We will be remiss if we don't spend some benchmarking your credit union's contingency plans and emergency response protocols. Please click here to complete a short survey of your best and worst practices during hurricane season.
  • No one has all the right answers and there is no silver bullet. To successfully manage our risks we need to sharing our experiences, addressing our fears, and confront our failures. Our time together in class will take the form of a "summit" rather than a lecture or presentation. I wrote a Risk Management "white paper" for your first year class that will focus our discussion on life threatening acts of violence in the workplace (robbery, bomb threats, extortion, terrorist attacks, looting, gang warfare, strikes, etc.). Our goal will be to improve RM methods as they relate to protecting executives, employees confronting angry members, those handling and transporting currency, travelers, etc. Please click here to download my white paper titled "Managing Executive and Self Protection Risks."

The 1/2 life of education is the time it take for us to forget 1/2 of what we learned. At my age that's about 10 days. While I'm sure it's longer for most of you, we want to make sure you're well equipped to carry your newly found RM wisdom home to your credit union and credit union chapter. While we'll have handouts available, you can also click here to download handouts I plan to distribute to all CUNA Management School students.

Thank you 1st year CUNA Management School students. I look forward to meeting you all, sharing my RM research and learning from your class.  Rich Woldt CEO The Risk Management Learning Center.
