A message
to all CUNA Management Students and Graduates... CEO - Rich
Woldt
Thank you for putting CUNA Management School on
your career path and my RM sessions on your
calendar. You're on a three year
journey that will test your metal, challenge
your mind, and expose you to a cadre of
experienced Risk Management professionals from around the world.
When you're a first
year student get ready to explore the RM
principles and practices that have formed the
foundation of our world wide, people helping
people, credit union movement. You'll hear about
the latest and greatest RM methods used to
combat fidelity bond risks and learn how you too
can safeguard your credit union against
burglary, robbery, fraud and forgery.
Credit union risks
and RM methods are constantly changing, mostly
for the better. During your second year
you'll network with International Risk Managers
and create global closed loop feedback systems
that will accelerate the RM process. It is
the credit union movement's organizational
structure that positions your credit union
better than any organization, anywhere in the
world, any time in history to spread best RM
practices throughout your community.
Third year students
are on the go! This year they'll tackle Katrina,
pandemics, and the latest terrorist' threats.
Students will form public to private and chapter to
chapter RM partnerships and stand ready to
respond to the next community crisis. They'll learn
the Incident Command System and how to manage
event' concentration risks. They'll apply what
they've learn at CUNA Management Schools and
ready their chapter to respond to and recover
from hurricanes 2006 and beyond.
The survey is titled
Katrina's Best and Worst practices.
Your input will be much appreciated and
posted in our library. Students, you
also can take this survey or pass it to
others in your credit union. I do not
track who completes these surveys so
unless you identify yourself you'll
remain anonymous. Students, you'll
find a similar survey and benchmarking
quizzes in your on-line class materials.

Katrina took us all to the woodshed!
First she blew holes in our contingency
plans, than blew away our recovery
assets, and finally, blew holes in our
confidence in our response protocols and
procedures. As an industry we stood
proud and strong on all fronts. Since
9-11 we've made significant
contributions to the war against
terrorists and we've got a game plan to
follow during a pandemic. I encourage
everyone to read the white papers and
handouts posted for each class.

Thank you all again for your continued
support of the CUNA Management School
program. I conducted my first RM
workshop at "CUNA School" in 1972. To
say our risks have changed is an
understatement. To say we've kept pace
with the changes is a fact in which I'm
very proud. If you're a Risk Management
historian you might enjoy reading our
white papers on the evolution of Risk
Management and the Credit Union
Movement.
