We are all in this together! This Risk Management Workbook allow us to share our RM reasearch and "Cross-train" the RM methods we find most effective! OUR Motto? This year's workbook has six chapters. In Chapter I, we survey CUNA Mutual and Credit Union Risk Managers to "benchmark" our 2006 RM programs and projects. In Chapter II, we retrain and introduce alternative RM research and development (R&D) strategies for 2007. In Chapter III, we update RMA data sheets and review written reports to ensure we're supporting CM underwriting and claims personnel and our recommendations are being implemented at the credit union level. Chapter IV, we refresh our RM workshops and presentations and plan for a series of 2007 RM discussions and fireside chats with our Credit Union Risk Managers. In Chapter V, we take advanced training in CUNA Mutual's Unified Incident Command and Control System. This system adopts the "Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) required teaching for law enforcement, fire fighters, and emergency governments to the credit union movement.

Chapter III...Data sheets are an important tool we use to identify and measure credit union risks in the UK. They help remind us what to ask and where to look when we're doing an on-site analysis and they provide us with a record of what we saw or heard, as when and where we found the facts that support our RM opinions. Data sheets also provide underwriters, claims personnel, and account relationship representatives with facts they need to do their jobs. Finally, data sheet provide us with facts on which we based our recommendations and a tool to defend our recommendations if and when they are challenged. Our data sheets have evolved with the credit union movement in the UK and they'll continue to change as credit unions change and face new risks.

Our written reports help us communicate with those responsible for implementing our recommendation. Because communication is so important, we've establish report writing standards and guideline that clearly state our RM concerns, tell why they are concerns, and provide specific RM recommendations that are appropriate for the credit union. Written reports also prioritize RM recommendations so we bring our most important "level #1" recommendations to their attention first. Finally, written reports establish compliance timelines and make clear our expectations that risks will be better managed in the future.

Again this year, I've asked Rich Woldt to review our data sheets and written reports and suggest any process improvements. I've also asked him to identify new questions we should be asking along with new RM data sheets we should be creating. Please share your questions and opinions with Rich either in person or via one of the surveys you may be asked to complete.

Thank you Steve for including me in this years evaluation of data sheet and RM reports. As in other years, we'll go back to our master copy of questions to ask and discuss adding questions we considered not appropriate for the UK movement last year. We'll also survey other CUNA Mutual' Risk Managers to see if they've identified what we called "high end" questions to ask in 2007. We'll also visit a number of our customers to discuss their current member services and future plans.                               Rich Woldt

Data sheets have and will continue to evolve with the international credit union movement. Both data sheets and written reports have been customized to fit the terminology common to financial institutions in Europe as well as the member services now being offered.

Based on what we learn in this chapter, new questions will be added to data sheets and new RM recommendations will be added to 2007 reports.
